I just had them out on a long weekend ski/climbing trip. They saw lots of snow, rock, and even a handful of waist deep stream crossings. I loved the pants except for the cuffs/lower legs. I could not get over how baggy they were. They have the ankle zips, but zipped up they are still quite a bit more baggy than regular cut jeans. It would be awesome if they had just a draw string to pull them tighter around your boots. As they are they were catching on all kinds of sticks along the trail and anytime I went through more than ankle deep snow the pants just rode up and let snow in my boots. With gaiters on they're great, if you want to wear gaiters all day. The pros are that the materials proved to be tough, they dried quickly after being soaked through on the stream crossings. They were great for alpine climbing and skiing. Just super frustrating with the cuffs and how baggy the legs were below the knee. For reference I am 6'1", 190#, wear a 34x34 jeans. I bought a large and they were just a little baggy around my waist, good elsewhere. I wouldn't buy these pants again, unless they dial in the cuff of the pants and maybe trim up the lower leg a bit. For the price there are other options that include those features.
I love these pants. I’m 6’8”. My selection of pants is limited, so I was excited to find anything close to a hiking pants that could fit. I’m currently living in Germany and my family goes home king all the time. These pants are amazing. They are light weight, easy to layer with, flex and allow you to move easily and comfy. I haven’t done any cold hikes (20 degrees or less) in them yet, but just some late winter/spring hikes (40 degrees). I can’t get enough of them.
NWA service is great. The pants I ordered ran large and I returned them. At the time, there were no smaller sizes available. Workmanship looked good. The quality of the materials was good. The pants looked like the images shown on line. Always like to support local companies. Thanks NWA
These quickly became my default pants, beating out many better known brands. I love the fit and feel. Not baggy at all yet not clingy or tight. Moves with you. The elastic waistband is great too. For sizing they fit very similarly to La Sportiva US sizes for me. What I didn’t like: - I could do without the gussets and zippered legs. Personal preference here, I don’t mind having a more dedicated winter pant and using these for the other three seasons. - belt loops are a little sloppy on the cut, and I’d have much preferred suspender loops. That being said I’d still probably have given five stars if there were zipper pulls. Seriously I love your stuff NWAlpine, but I cannot operate those tiny zipper tabs with gloves. I’m still going to end up with a second pair of these at some point in the future because I really do like them.
The Thielsen pants have been an excellent addition to my cold weather gear. I was looking for extended length (36” inseam) trekking, hiking, technical outdoor pair pants that would actually fit. NWAlpine came through with the option for custom inseam sizes. For reference, I’m 6-3, 180 lbs, with a 32” waist. Taking a chance, I ordered a size medium with the custom inseam. The pants took about three weeks to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Right out of the packaging the fit was perfect. The material, stitching, and zipper placement were all spot on. Overall I’m very pleased with this purchase.
