10 years ago, we heeded a call to start a climbing apparel brand that designed and manufactured its product all in the US. From that spark, we built a factory, created a contract sewing company, and have continued to grow from there. Domestic manufacturing is important to us and is what drives us to continually grow and innovate. That is why we dove headfirst into PPE production when the pandemic reached our shores. We have made substantial investments in equipment and have committed ourselves to providing US manufactured PPE even after this pandemic is under control.
Our largest investment in PPE was an automated surgical mask machine. This product embodies everything that we are trying to do, both as a brand and as a contract sewing manufacturer. Every material used to make our disposable masks is produced right here in the United States and we could not be prouder of that statement. Purchasing from domestic suppliers and textile mills only helps strengthen our manufacturing base and considerably cuts down on travel and reliance on overseas manufacturing.
With that said, we are fully aware of the waste generated by disposable masks. To offset this waste, and to benefit causes that are important to us, we are setting aside $2.50 from every case of disposable masks sold through our site. In addition, 2% from bulk and wholesale sales will also be set aside. These funds will be split 50/50 to create two programs. One will be a climbing fund program where we will be donating money to support climbing teams, 'scholarships' for climbing trips, or climbing advocacy. The other half will be donated to an outdoor education or environmental non-profit. This is only the first step of a broader initiative. Starting in 2021, 2% from every sale on our site will be set aside for these programs.
Please stay tuned for more details as we set this up.
